Being Human

Anatomically incorrect view on anatomy of being human

This series was mostly inspired by my mother, at least in the beginning stages of painting. When confronted with health issues in family, I couldn’t stop dreaming about blood vessels, flesh and bones and just thought a lot about what makes us human and fragility and strength of our vessels. I know very little about actual human anatomy, but I felt in control of my life while looking at histology images, microscopic scans of bones, brain scans. I became both fascinated and infatuated with these images and began collecting them.

Finally, I started painting these organic forms, inspired by images of human anatomy I was looking at, but also motherhood, family bonds and love. I don’t know real science behind human anatomy and these are just my intuitive, organic, abstract interpretations of what I feel being human is. Blood, bones and cells, but so much more than that.
